Hello from Michelle!

Hello! Michelle here, your new Station Manager. I wanted to send out a big hello and introduce myself for those who don’t know me.

I am so excited to be back at 3MDR after a bit of a break from the station. I started my journey with 3MDR in (from memory) late 2006 when I was 16, and my three-piece garage band was interviewed on the Breakfast Lounge with the Maestro and the Professor.

See below an archival image of baby Michelle tambourine-ing her little heart out at possibly the first PAVE(D) festival. Also pictured: the extremely talented Kristina aka Niine on guitar, and my radio co-host/cousin Sally on bass. Our band was called Slow Moves and Dirty Tricks (named after a line in a Sleater-Kinney song).

I started presenting a show shortly after that first interview, and continued right up until roughly 2 years ago after my son was born and I decided it was time to take a little break from broadcasting.

My most recent show, Lips that Bite, was a feminist music show, playing anything from 90s riot grrrl, to heart-breaking 60s soul ballads, to politically-charged hip hop, with a close eye on the punk/garage scene in Naarm.

My love of community radio spilled over to PBS 106.7fm, where I worked firstly as a researcher and editor for the 40 Years of PBS Book, and then as their Membership Coordinator.

Before coming home to 3MDR I was working for Wildlife Victoria as their Fundraising Manager, where I had the privileged of working with some incredibly passionate people in the wildlife rescue space.

I am so excited to have the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge I have gathered over the years to keep the wheels of 3MDR turning, and help the station reach it’s potential.

I have received many lovely messages, phone calls, cakes, flowers and friendly hellos! Even though I know the station well, it is still daunting stepping into a new role. I really appreciate everyone who has reached out to make we feel welcome. Nat and Phil have both been amazing Station Managers, and have built 3MDR into the vibrant, inclusive, and dynamic cultural institution that it is today!

I am looking forward to working with all of you amazing volunteers to continue to make awesome radio.
