3MDR Programing Changes

Hello awesome 3MDR listeners...
There have been a few programing changes which will come into effect from Saturday night (30th May).

Cosmic Debris has moved from Tuesday 3-5pm to Saturday 6-9pm.
Fresh Air Youth Radio has moved from Wednesday 1-3pm to Tuesday 3-5pm.
Alphabet Soup has moved from Tuesday 9-10 am to Wednesday 1-3pm.

We are also expecting two new shows to start soon...

We know that moving things around can be unsettling, but we ask that you give all these changes a fair go.

The new program guide is attached below, so you can see all the programs in their time slots.

Ian Collard on Harmonica Riff Raff

On Harmonica Riff Raff this coming Wednesday 3rd June from 5-7pm, listen in for an interview with Ian Collard.

Old Shep and Ian will cover Ian's time in Collard Greens & Gravy, The Backsliders & Three Kings and also Ian's solo album Swamp Stomp & Boogie, which was released last year.

The boys will chat about Ian's earliest influences, how he gets that gutsy blues sound, looking at mics, amps & pedals.

Have your harps ready, as Ian will also gives us a mini lesson from his solo release.

Broadcasting Issues...

Unfortunately, we are experiencing some technical/ broadcasting issues at the moment, which are affecting the quality of our radio transmission.

We are working on this and we hope to have it fixed ASAP.

The online stream is working fine, if you have access to the web it's crystal clear.

There is, of course, paperwork involved... Check out our Presenter Proposal Form below, so you can get an idea of the rights and responsibilities of a 3MDR Community Radio Presenter and, if you'd like more info we can certainly assist.

You'll be trained in all aspects of presenting and content production and we guarantee you'll have a great time!!

Currently we have 84 presenters with shows that cover 126 hours out 168 per week... so there's totally room for more!!

Farewell to Dazed & Confused

Saturday night was the final show for Dazed & Confused with Wayne & Roach and 3MDR would like to take this opportunity to thank the duo for their years of service and fantastic show.

After many many years on air, the duo have decided that now is the right time to gracefully bow out. Over the years the show has amassed quite a following and we are sure the boys will be missed.

However, there is good news in this story too!!
With Cosmik Debris moving to the Saturday night time slot (6pm-9pm). Many Dazed & Confused listeners would be familiar with Sebastian from Cosmik Debris, as he has regularly filled in on the show over the past 6 months.

So there's no need to change the frequency, as your Saturday nights are guaranteed to keep on rockin!!

Meet Maxwell!!

The most amazing thing has happened...

3MDR has been gifted an orphaned Rhino named Maxwell!! We are now his proud foster parents and we couldn't be happier!! Thanks heaps Mark Jones... we think what you're doing is truly amazing and inspirational.

So, how did this happen? I hear you asking...

The basic story is, small steps make positive action for change.
One of 3MDR's fantastic presenters Jules met Mark Jones at the Rivoli Theatre at the launch of the Oceanagraphic International Film Festival back in March. Mark Jones' film was debuted as part of the launch and is called 'Ocean and Earth - One Heartbeat'. It is a short 4-5 minute piece on the sea life (often unreported) under our piers in Port Philip Bay and the Mornington Peninsula.
Too good an opportunity to miss, Mark joined Jules on the Sustainability Show to talk about his film on the 16th March. Conversations followed on FaceBook and Mark mentioned how he wanted to do something positive for the environment and proceeded to attempt to 'gift' elephants to schools. Initially this was intended to be anonymous, but this wasn't always possible. Being an ex-teacher, Jules suggested perhaps she could talk to Maccelsfield Primary's Principal about what a 'gift' might involve, to encourage a further small step of awareness. Mark then took it upon himself to 'gift EmFSus a 'tailless' elephant named Amalaya and 3MDR was gifted a baby black blind rhino called Maxwell .Bingo... 3 communities reached out of 1 conversation.

What do we need to do as custodian's of this 'gift' ? Basically just care!
Raise awareness of the plight of endangered/extinct species where possible, encourage others to take one small similar step. We can all do something!

Mark by the way is an Electrician by trade, happens to like diving and decided to do something with a portion of his income for 'a greater cause' ..... couldn't we all?

Mark will be the guest speaker at EmFSus on Monday 8th June, 7.30 in the local Emerald Library and his oceanic film and a short film on the 'Sheldrick Trust' projects will also be shown, so anyone interested in finding out more is welcome to attend.

In total Mark has worked with six schools, and has made eight individual gifts, which has seen fourteen orphans sponsored. He is also working with five more schools at the moment.

As Mark says... "This is my passion, my part in changing the world" and he challenges us to ask ourselves... "What can I do to care for someone or something today?"

National Volunteer Week

This week is National Volunteer Week, a time when all volunteers are to be celebrated and valued... even more than normal!!

3MDR is a nearly wholly volunteer run organisation, so it goes without saying that WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS!!!!

Without them the station would simply not exist.

So.. we would like to say a MASSIVE THANK-YOU to all our presenters, sound techs, admin peeps, fresh air crew, work experience students, board of management and everyone else who helps out!!!

You guys are THE BEST!!!

Last Imaginary Friends Show... for now...

This morning saw the final broadcast of the Imaginary Friends Show, with Peej, Elliot & Maybe Even Elaine, at the early morning time of 6am.
Peej is taking off to English shores, with a sojourn in Paris, with his good sister for six weeks of well earned holiday time!!
Upon his return, we are sure it wont be long before you are hearing the dulcet tones of the merry gang of three over the airwaves again.
We will definitely keep you up to date of any happenings in this area.
