As someone who organises, holds and records interviews, either over the phone or in person, coming across the opportunities and having the person actually follow through with the interview, can sometimes be a challenging thing…

But not for ten year old Rune. Being Fresh in the scene of radio and interviews hasn’t stopped her one iota. She recently held her an interview with the esteemed and prolific Australian cartoonist, Michael Leunig, for Fresh Air Youth Radio.

If you’re unfamiliar with the works of “Leunig”, you may be familiar with his iconic characters and his unique taste for the philosophical, political and spiritual aspects of life, each of which are strewn through his works like gold in the sun.

Leunig started writing political cartoons in 1969 while based in Melbourne. His first published book of collected cartoons, The Penguin Leunig, was published in 1974 and since then he has released twenty three other publications of collected works as well as his exhibited works; prints, paintings and drawings, which are all held in high regard as some of Australia’s most prolific commentary on society and the turnings within.

Rune, with the assistance of her mum, got her foot in the door to address Leunig and ask him some solid questions from the perspective of a young person within an ever changing society at her feet.
