Help Emerald Grow! Campaign Update

COUNCIL VOTES NO

At the August Council meeting Ranges Ward Cr Brett Owen recommended Cardinia Shire Council NOT purchase the old Emerald Police Station for the community, Ranges Ward Cr Leticia Wilmot seconded the motion. Ranges Ward Cr Tania Baxter spoke in favour of the motion not to purchase and Councillors voted unanimously against purchase of the old Emerald police station.

3MDR will continue to work with other community groups to try and acquire the police station for Emerald and the wider community. We sincerely thank everybody who has supported us thus far and hope that you will continue to support our endeavours.

Previous post:

Thank you to everyone that has supported our campaign to Help Emerald Grow! 3MDR Vice President Dale Blair handed over 1200 signatures to the Cardinia Shire Council to show them Cardinia Shire residents support to purchase the Old Emerald Police Station, on Kilvington Drive, for the purpose of establishing a Arts, Business, Tourism and Communications hub for the region.

There was a huge response to the online campaign, with many people leaving comments. Here they are a few for you to read through, all names etc have been removed. If you would like to read all the responses, click here.

'I support turning the vacant police station into a community hub, it was paid for by the citizens of the state and therefore should remain as an asset to the local community.'

'We run a shop in Kilvington Drive and are constantly getting tourists asking for information and directions. This would be a Godsend to have a Tourist Information Centre in Town.'

'This is a wonderful opportunity to create a hub for the community which would also have economic spinoffs given the proximity of the location to Puffing Billy.'

'If I can travel from Narre Warren Sth to support Emerald every week for 19 years and for special events then I think the council should be able to see the potential in one of the prettiest little towns in the shire and facilitate this communications and promotional hub. It's the perfect location and opportunity. One that is unlikely to come again.'

'Being next door to Gemco and around the corner from the community house, this seems the logical place for the local radio station, a real community hub.'

'Retention of local COMMUNITY radio station is integral to the welfare of any community, & in combination with a TOURISM HUB what better way to enhance the beautiful area this vicinity embraces. Community radio also plays many of our local indie artists whom the public rarely hear on mainstream...this really is a must!!!'
