hillsceneLIVE 2015

For one night only, a derelict lonely shopfront in Monbulk is transformed into a vessel for traversing conceptual terrain.  This pop-up festival involves 14 live works, featuring 30 experimental artists, who will each navigate territories both personal and political.

In this space:
  • craft and activism will meet;
  • wrestling and art become one;
  • political bodies revolt tradition; and
  • ideas and action cross pollinate.

Featuring Choreography, Theatre, Sound, Live Art, Installation, Projection, Craftivism and a fully licensed bar.

Driven by a desire to support artists who embrace challenge and ask big questions through their work, hillsceneLIVE festival is a feast of live / time-based art practice that supports artists to experiment and realise creative ideas.

“This is the fourth hillsceneLIVE festival, as is by far the bravest and boldest to date”  says Festival Director Gareth Hart.  “The artists in this year’s festival are of such a high calibre, both intellectually and artistically, that I cannot wait to share this festival with you all.  There are some really complex and important questions being asked by the programmed artists, that I feel this festival has a real Cultural Importance, right now”.

This is the next generation of the festival, being curated and facilitated by a newly formed Cultural Leadership Committee of 4 local female art producers.

“It is such a delight to work with these talented producers, each at differing stages of their careers: from beginning, to emerging, to more established.  Being able to support these creative brains to produce the festival that they want to see is a treat” says Hart.

Radio-Thon 2015 - Born of Fire

3MDR’s (Mountain District Radio 97.1 FM) annual Radio-thon returns again, running from 19th October through to 1st November and it is the only real time that we ask our listeners and the general public to support our ongoing work.
It is during this period that we seek new members or ask our current ones to resubscribe.

2015 is an important year for 3MDR, as it is the 30th anniversary of the birth of this community radio station. 3MDR’s theme for this year is: Born of Fire and it is hoped that many people will assist 3MDR to continue broadcasting and developing further.
The need for a radio station was instigated because of the Ash Wednesday Bushfires, way back in 1983, as it was felt that there had to be a better way of informing people of events, whether dangerous or pleasurable. Peter Colenso brought together an avid group who became the first board of management in 1985/6; that board consisted of the following Dandenong Ranges radio pioneers: Brian Dumps (President), Ron Hadley (Vice President), Barbara Baxter (Sec), David Hutton (Treasurer), Ron Harmer (Technical Officer), Len Hamilton, Ian Porter, Robert Fogarty, Greg Webb, R Chapman, Paul Easton, Peter Colenso and Tom McGee. We are all grateful to those who set the way for us.

3MDR’s presenters are all volunteers and many are not only involved in presenting but also behind the scenes work too. How many people do you know of who shut themselves away in an office like environment and talk to unseen people for approximately two hours, with musical intermissions and or interviews? Sounds easy, but it is not always so!

Everyone who either joins or renews a membership will go into the draw to win some outstanding prizes, such as: CDs, a peddle car (donated by Garage Art Australia), a double gold ticket to The Cameo Cinema in Belgrave, a family pass to Phillip Island’s 3 Nature Parks, vouchers and more. Subscription/membership options range from $20 to $100 and are available in a range of options such as: Listener, Youth, Pensioner, Family, Pet, Community Group and Performer. These can all be checked out online at www.3MDR.com , by phoning (03) 5968 2728 or visiting the station during business hours.

Donations are also gladly welcome and are tax deductable if over $2.00

Your support will keep 3MDR on air and will keep radio local, informative and innovative and what’s more, yours!

CBAA 2015 National Features and Documentary Series

One of 3MDR's extremely talented presenters has produced a standout documentary as part of the CBAA National Features and Documentary Series 2015.

Meeghan Bell - Earth Spin, Wednesdays 9-11am, has worked tirelessly over the past few months to pull this project together.

'Red Dirt in Bondi' is a radio feature set in Sydney around the time of the Bicentenary, 26 January 1988. The key participants in this feature are Aboriginal activist and academic Gary Foley, the Building Bridges Cultural Construction Crew featuring Jim George, Tony Duke and Denise Officer (Andrew McMillan passed away on 28 January 2012) and singer-songwriter, Kev Carmody.
