Raise The Mast - Project Complete!!!

3MDR has Raised The Mast at the transmitter site!!

After 18 months of negotiations and planning, 3MDR's communications rigger raised the broadcast antenna at the transmitters site in Kallista by 2 and a half meters on Tuesday 22nd October.

3MDR was "off the air" for approximately 5 hours while a crane was brought onto the site.  The riggers removed the existing mounting and antenna to bring it all to ground level.  The antenna was then fixed to the newly fabricated mounting plate and hoisted back up to the top of the tower and secured.  It was with much relief that everything aligned and 3MDR was back on the air as soon as the extended cables were connected.   Some radiation output testing followed and we're confident that everything is honkydory!

This project was undertaken at the request of our transmitter site landlord.  Until now, 3MDR had been required to switch off the broadcast antenna for the safety of workers whenever maintenance was carried out on the water tower.  3MDR's antenna emits quite a bit of radiation to get the signal to your radios.

Aside from keeping maintenance workers safe without the need to switch off the transmission, we're hoping that 3MDR's signal is now reaching into some of the black spots that are within the licence area.

We'd love to hear any feedback on the clarity and strength of the signal now that the antenna has been raised.  Are you receiving up 3MDR in places you never did before?  Is the signal better, worse or the same?  This information will assist us in reporting to the outcome of this project.

This project was made possible with the funding support provided by the Community Broadcasting Foundation.  The CBF does amazing work in supporting the community broadcasting sector with funding and advocacy.   For more information on this essential sector body please visit their website.

Simon Kinny-Lewis returns to Emerald RSL for the Red To Blue Sessions - Friday 15th November

11/4/2019

Comments

Picture
Hailing from NSW, blues guitarist Simon Kinny-Lewis is excited to return to the Emerald RSL on Friday 15th November for this month's Red To Blue Session.

Simon Kinny-Lewis takes the audience with him on a seismic journey of compelling, blues guitar – along with a voice that Steve Lukather (Toto, Michael Jackson), describes as being similar to American blues star Joe Bonamassa.

Get your dancing shoes on, gather family and friends and enjoy a fabulous evening of live blues music.

Tickets are only $10 for 3MDR subscribers/RSL members or $12 on the door.

The RSL bar will be open and a local school or community group will be sizzling some snags to raise funds for a project or two.

Doors open at 7pm with the live music kicking off at 7:30pm.

Tune into Red To Blue every Friday with The Webstar and Doc for some great Australiaan blues and contemporary rock from 3-5pm.

Coming up in December - The Hoodoo Men - will close off the 2019 Red To Blue Sessions in mighty fine style.
