UPDATE:

To the incredible Belgrave lantern family, we are sad to have to announce that this year’s lantern festival will need to be postponed. This decision has been made in the interest of public safety. The good news is the event will happen. A time and date have yet to be confirmed but we anticipate it won’t be too long. In the meantime, just like last year, we are assembling dozens of lantern-making kits that can be ordered online and picked up from specific sites across the hills for $15

https://www.eventbrite.com.au/.../pyramid-lantern-kits...
If you wish for your lantern to be exhibited please drop them off at Two Floors in the week starting June 14.
Expect to see lanterns new and old adorning the windows of our main street very soon. We thank you all for your patience, kindness, and support.

Belgrave Lantern Festival is our next Creative Organisation to be awarded a FREE month of On Air Announcements, as part of Community Grants funded by Yarra Ranges Council.

The Belgrave Lantern Festival is so well loved in the community and has totally been put at risk by the Covid-19 pandemic, but it is happening in 2021!!

It will be a night of light, entertainment and fun featuring activated spaces and creative precinct ‘pop ups’ in streets, alleyways, arcades, nooks and crannies.

Expect a riot of art, music, workshops, circus arts, DJ’s, bands, solo artists, food, fire-pits and more.
June 19 from 6-8pm for more details including a map of the activated spaces, check out the Belgrave Lantern Festival Facebook page.

If you're a local creative individual, team, organisation or business, or you support the creative industries, and you're interested in having a free campaign, you can find out all the details here: http://ow.ly/w9zO50EBoId

Military Memorabilia Exhibition

Local military historian Steve Hedger has put together a comprehensive military exhibition, that will be open for viewing this Sunday 26th April at Cockatoo Community Hall.  Steve will be interviewed on Community Outlook this weekend, as part of the ANZAC Day edition of the program
(Community Outlook airs every Saturday from 1pm-2pm).

Steve is a military historian who has had an interest in military history for 40 years.  He has been collecting militaria for 40 yrs and his collection spans from the Boer War of 1899 to the present day. Steve's ultimate aim is to try and start a War Museum in Victoria that anyone can visit and spend a day looking at its history. He has a collection  of over 2,000 military history books and has been fortunate to have bought most of his collection.  However, he has also had a little bit donated by people who have things stored at home from their father or grandfather and have been unsure what to do with them.  As an example he has three World War I maps dated 1918, brought back from France by an Australian Soldier. As they were still in the trenches after the Armistise, he also has a Xmas dinner menu from Xmas 1918, where the 55th Heavy Battery printed a menu for their troops. Steve also has a National Service ballot card for a friend who was told to get ready in case he was required to train for Vietnam and a soldier's rules of engagement for the East Timor and Iraq operations. He has a captured Taliban ammunition vest and a captured portrait of Saddam Hussein. These are just a few interesting items from the collection, that is surely a must see for this 100th Anniversary of Gallipoli ANZAC weekend.

The PAVE Festival begins today!!

3MDR is a proud sponsor of The PAVE Festival and all the fun and revelment begins today and runs through til 19th April.

"
You may notice a bit of a buzz around PAVE this year as our 2015 program represents 10 years of celebrating this rich cultural event in our town. In tribute to the incredible relationships and networks we have built over this period, this year’s PAVE program has adopted an environmental message in conjunction with the sustainability theme of longevity and survival of the Performing and Visual Arts here in the hills and beyond. This year’s focus extends upon PAVE’s history of creating community spirit, strength and support through the establishment of partnerships with many incredible organisations locally.

Whilst the plight of the humble honey bee may not initially seem to be a theme one would adopt to celebrate a Performing and Visual Arts Festival, there is in fact a major common thread, that is …..without them or our artists, our day to day lifestyles would be changed dramatically for the worse.

So don’t be surpriizzzed if you notice a bit of a ‘bee theme’ among some of our program activities this year.

We are proud at PAVE to offer you this year’s rich and culturally diverse arts celebration, with something for all. We are fortunate to have the terrific lineup and help of so many hard working volunteers and the staff at Emerald Community House to make an event like this come together and we thank each and every one of you for your support.

Like bees, we all need a home. Come and spend some time at the HIVE, PAVE’s pop-up festival hub, right in the heart of town. Buzz on in, spend some time with your new best friends and gather to celebrate our incredible community festival."

There is sure to be something for everyone in this iconic community arts festival, a full program guide is available HERE
