Senthil joined the Sanganatham Tamil Radio Program as a volunteer panel board operator/ technical assistant in 1995 and continued his service to the Tamil community in Australia, especially in Victoria and in the City of Casey.
The programme, called Sanganatham Radio, is broadcast every Sunday 8.00 am -10.00 am on 97.1 FM from 3MDR's Studios in Upwey, Victoria. This broadcast is supported by the Victorian Tamil Cultural Association Inc to promote Tamil art and culture, including encouraging the young generation to train as community volunteer broadcasters, and encourages newly arrived migrants to know Australian values.
This two hour radio programme brings Tamil news from Tamil traditional homes in Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, Singapore and Mauritius and is very popular with the entire local Tamil community.
Sanganatham Radio provides important community services including during bushfires and floods and raises funds for natural disaster relief. Mr. Senthilnathan is one of the key people broadcasting this programme, since he joined as a volunteer 25 years ago and worked shoulder to shoulder to make this programme go national, as people can listen in Sydney, Canberra and South Australia through Australian Tamil Broadcasting Corporation's 24 hour broadcasting services.
His input as a volunteer is more than 25 hours per month, which adds up to 300 hours annually. Senthil is well known and respected not only by Tamils, but also by broader multicultural communities. On behalf of the Sanganatham Tamil Community Radio Broadcasting Services, the Victorian Tamil Cultural Association, and 3MDR we would like to congratulate on being such a worthy recipient of a 2021 Holt Australia Day Award.
