BIG NEWS FOR SELBY COMMUNITY HOUSE

From Selby Community House
We are so pleased to finally be able to share some positive news regarding the future of Selby Community House.
After many incredibly difficult months following the sudden closure of our building in December due to extensive termite-related structural damage, Yarra Ranges Council has now formally confirmed that the Selby Community House building will be fully repaired and refreshed!
This is an enormous relief for our staff, volunteers, tutors, childcare families and the wider community who have continued to support us so generously throughout this challenging time.
As many of you know, the closure of our much-loved House has had a significant impact on our community. Since December, we have worked tirelessly to relocate programs and services so we could continue supporting the Hills community wherever possible. Thanks to the flexibility and patience of our tutors, volunteers and community members, our Term programs have continued across Monbulk Hub and Menzies Creek Hall, while our wonderful Selby Childcare service successfully reopened at its temporary home at Menzies Creek Primary School in April, at the beginning of Term 2.
We know this disruption has been difficult, and we sincerely thank everyone who has continued to stand by us, attend programs, share kind messages and support the House during this period. Your encouragement has meant more than you know.
Yarra Ranges Council has now confirmed that repair works and building improvements will commence shortly. These works will include repairs to the termite damage, new flooring, upgraded heating and cooling, and a general refresh of the facility.
Current timelines indicate the works are aiming to be completed by the end of August, allowing us time to prepare the building and work through the required approvals to bring all of our services and programs back home to Selby Community House.
While there is still plenty to work through, this is the first real certainty we have had in many months — and we are incredibly excited and relieved to finally be able to look ahead with confidence.
Selby Community House has been at the heart of our community for over 50 years. We are the oldest continuously operating Community House in Victoria and have such a proud history of supporting connection, creativity, learning and belonging in the Hills. We cannot wait to welcome everyone back into a refreshed and revitalised House.
We will continue to keep you updated as works progress and will share reopening plans and celebrations as soon as we can. We have already started planning the House-Warming party!
Thank you again for your patience, kindness and ongoing support of Selby Community House.
Warm regards,
Danielle McMinn
